  46. 1.  HOSTACCESS VERSIONS

  48. Available in 16 and 32 bit versions, HOSTACCESS 6.30a is designed for 
  49. optimum performance in a Windows 3.1 and Workgroups environment, but
  50. will work in a Windows 95 environment, although some features may 
  51. function incorrectly. HOSTACCESS 7.10a is designed specifically for 
  52. use on Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0 and later releases on NT.

  112. 3.  FEATURES
  113.  
  114. 3.1  Installation
  115.  
  116.    Standard InstallShield installation process which allows you to
  117.    add-in or remove optional items such as server installation files,
  118.    on-line manuals and sample macro/test files. The installation now 
  119.    includes the latest Microsoft updates (which are selected to be 
  120.    installed, if needed). Installing these will enable the new 
  121.    toolbars and FTP client in HOSTACCESS 7.1.
  122.  
  123. 3.2  Security
  124.  
  125.    HOSTACCESS stores encrypted user names and passwords in the session
  126.    file, and allows you to configure the command stacker to prevent 
  127.    them from being recorded.
  128.  
  129. 3.3  File Transfer
  130.  
  131.    HOSTACCESS supports its own proprietary file transfer protocol's
  132.    (PICK.DOS and UNIXDOS) and all the standard file transfer protocols 
  133.    including Kermit, X Modem, Y Modem, Z Modem, IND$FILE. HOSTACCESS
  134.    now supports standard FTP. This gives users the ability to transfer
  135.    files to and from any FTP server on the internet. This 
  136.    functionality can be controlled via AiF.
  137.  
  138. 3.4  Emulations
  139.  
  140.    Support for the Honeywell Bull VIP 7800 emulation has been added.
  141.    The IBM TN5250 and TN3270 and ICL 7561 emulation have been enhanced
  142.    considerably with improved printing and AutoGUI facilities. 
  143.    HOSTACCESS also supports IND$FILE file transfer for 3270 
  144.    applications. True emulation style attributes are supported with,
  145.    for instance, underline and flashing styles.
  146.  
  147. 3.5  User Interface
  148.  
  149.    You can navigate host backpages with a vertical scroll-bar, this 
  150.    feature is turned off by default. HOSTACCESS now contains a new 
  151.    graphical user interface for the IND$FILE file transfer protocol.

  153. 3.6  Keyboard Mapping
  154.  
  155.    You can customise your keyboard by using the Keyboard mapping option
  156.    to define functions for PC keys pressed. HOSTACCESS will store and
  157.    play back up to 80 PC key mappings. You can also map keys to macros
  158.    or specific character strings. You can now perform all of the 
  159.    actions needed for mapping PC keys, via the keyboard. You now also
  160.    have the ability to dual map emulation keys.

  162. 3.7  AutoGUI
  163.  
  164.    You can transform the look of legacy applications into Windows style 
  165.    applications with ease, without any code changes to the host
  166.    application using HOSTACCESS's AutoGUI features.
  167.  
  168. 3.8  Printing
  169.  
  170.    This feature is extended to allow print jobs to be closed by the
  171.    user as well as support for a user configured timeout to allow Print
  172.    Managers to close print jobs correctly. There is also the ability to
  173.    close print jobs via AiF. 
  174.  
  175. 3.9  Macros
  176.  
  177.    HOSTACCESS's powerful macro facility allows you to automate standard
  178.    tasks. You can either use the macro recorder to automate simple 
  179.    tasks, or you can write a program in HOSTACCESS's macro language to
  180.    automate almost any host task.
  181.  
  182. 3.10 Screen Handling
  183.  
  184.    Ultimise is now a system state with Maximise and Restore. New Font
  185.    automation has been added, which means you can resize the HOSTACCESS
  186.    frame and the font automation resizes the terminal window for the 
  187.    'best fit' without adjusting the frame size.
  188.  
  189. 3.11 On-line Documentation
  190.  
  191.    Full on-line help for User's, Developers and Host Integration (PICK,
  192.    Universe, Unidata and compatible systems) is available and can be
  193.    selected during the installshield.
  194.  
  195. 3.12 Terminal Configuration
  196.  
  197.    The previous functionality for force Num Lock on/off has been removed,
  198.    owing to the different behaviours of versions of Windows.  The 
  199.    options that are now available are either to use Num Lock as the 
  200.    Num Lock toggle, or to use Num Lock as a Host key.
  201.  
  202.    The Caps Lock now attempts to force the state of the Caps Lock at 
  203.    connection time only, as will be the case for all Windows 
  204.    applications.  The Caps Lock state is not 'saved' when HOSTACCESS is
  205.    accessed or exited.
  206.  
  207.    The nationality option has been removed.  When a terminal supports
  208.    nationality changes, these are reflected in the configuration 
  209.    properties of the particular emulation.
  210.  
  211. 3.13 Session Configuration
  212.  
  213.    When configuration setting can be performed 'on the fly' this 
  214.    facility is made available.  A session is restarted only when a 
  215.    change is made that cannot be actioned 'on the fly'.  The 32-bit 
  216.    version now restarts the session only when changes have been made.
  217.    The 16- and 32-bit versions now use a standard interface for
  218.    configuring sessions.
  219.  
  220. 3.14 Journal Configuration
  221.  
  222.    The Journal dialog has been reorganised to avoid overlapping 
  223.    controls.  There are many additional diagnostic areas.
  224.  
  225. 3.15 Colour Configuration
  226.  
  227.    Colours can now be directly selected without having to select the 
  228.    radio buttons associated with them, and colour changes can now be 
  229.    made more logically.
  230.  
  231. 3.16 Toolbars
  232.  
  233.    The toolbars has been changed to use standard 'Microsoft foundation
  234.    class' toolbars, this give the toolbar a new look and feel. This 
  235.    also means that toolbars can be docked on either the side, top 
  236.    or bottom of the HOSTACCESS window. The toolbars use the new 
  237.    'Internet Explorer effect', this means that the toobar buttons
  238.    appear flat. Customisation has now been implemented for the new
  239.    look toolbars, you can rearrange, add or remove buttons at your
  240.    leisure.

  242. 3.17 Hotspots
  243.  
  244.    Hotspots have been enhanced so that when using CURSORPOS we only
  245.    take one mouse-click to jump to the appropriate location.
  246.  
  247. 3.18 Performance
  248.  
  249.    Windows NT performance has been enhanced and processor usage has 
  250.    been reduced.
  251.  
  252. 3.19 Internal
  253.  
  254.    The product has been standardized internally by the implementation
  255.    of Microsoft's 'Doc View' architecture. 
  256.  
  257.    The source codes for the 16- and 32-bit versions have been unified.
  258.    Consequently, only one resource file is required for both versions.
  259.  
  260.    The appearance and handling of the 16-bit spin controls are now the 
  261.    same as the 32-bit standard controls.
  262.  
  263.    All internal storage of character and screen data has been converted
  264.    to utilise unicode.

  268. 4.  ACTIVE'X'
  269.  
  270. 4.1  Microsoft's Internet Explorer v3.02 or later
  271.  
  272.    HOSTACCESS 7.10a is now ActiveX enabled; this means that HOSTACCESS
  273.    can be used embedded in Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.02 or later.
  274.    This feature is enabled as part of the evaluation license but will
  275.    require an additional code after the 30 day evaluation period.

  278. 4.2  Netscape's Navigator and Communicator browsers
  279.  
  280.    If you need to use HOSTACCESS 7.10a embedded in Netscape's Navigator

  286. 5. EXCLUSIONS FROM PRODUCT VERSIONS
  287.  
  288. 5.1  16bit VBX Grid
  289.  
  290.    This is supported in HOSTACCESS 6.3 but not in HOSTACCESS 7.1.
  291.  
  292. 5.2  ActiveX
  293.  
  294.    HOSTACCESS 7.1 supports ActiveX, but this is not supported in 
  295.    HOSTACCESS 6.3.
  296.  
  297. 5.3  Networks 
  298.  
  299.    HOSTACCESS 7.1 supports a subset of the networks supported by 
  300.    HOSTACCESS 6.3, see section 2.2.
  301.  
  302. 5.4  Context Menus
  303.  
  304.    HOSTACCESS 7.1 supports context menus - this is not supported in 
  305.    HOSTACCESS 6.3.
  306.  
  307. 5.5  Session Configuration
  308.  
  309.    In HOSTACCESS 7.1 you can create/configure a session with HOSTACCESS
  310.    closed - this is not supported in HOSTACCESS 6.3.
  311.  
  312. 5.6  OLE Support
  313.  
  314.    HOSTACCESS 7.1 supports OLE - this is not supported in 
  315.    HOSTACCESS 6.3. 
  316.  
  317. 5.7  Path Specification 
  318.  
  319.    HOSTACCESS 7.1 allows you to specify a path when opening and saving
  320.    sessions (the default working directory is used - unless using
  321.    HOSTACCESS on Windows 98, where the 'My Documents' directory is 
  322.    used) - this is not supported in HOSTACCESS 6.3.
  323.  
  324. 5.8  TAPI Support
  325.  
  326.    HOSTACCESS 7.1 supports TAPI for modem access to hosts - TAPI is not
  327.    supported in HOSTACCESS 6.3, which has it own modem dialing 
  328.    interface.

  330. 5.9  Toolbars
  331.  
  332.    HOSTACESS 7.1 supports the new 'Internet Explorer effect' toolbars -
  333.    These toolbars are not supported in HOSTACCESS 6.3.

  335. 5.10 FTP file transfer

  337.    HOSTACCESS 7.1 supports the new FTP file transfer client - This is
  338.    not supported in HOSTACCESS 6.3.
